Focus On The “One Thing” Your Business Does Well

What is the One Thing Your company excels at providing?

Bruce Lee

I love this quote by Bruce Lee

I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”

It clearly makes a point.

Here’s a thought…

Have you been to a fast food place lately?

From the menu, you can order almost any kind of fast food you want.

Want a taco? They’ve got it.

Want a burger? Not a problem.

Want breakfast? It’s there!

The problem is that with one bite you realize that they don’t really do any of these things very well. It’s fairly mediocre food to be completely honest. They’ve spread their focus in so many directions, there isn’t time to make one particular menu item really mind-blowing. And they aren’t alone.

Lots of restaurants now try and offer huge variety beyond the scope of their “expertise.” They are tempted to do so because they want to try and reach as many customers as possible regardless of what their customers are in the mood to eat. That’s makes sense, I suppose. But the wise business owner needs to know what they do really well and then spend all of their time perfecting that one thing.

A wise business owner knows that when they specialize and narrow their focus, they get the reputation for being the best in that field instead of having a smattering of unrelated products or services.

What is your “one Thing”?

Be bold enough to train your focus on the “one thing” your business does really well.

Anyone can be mediocre and therefore do mediocre business. It’s take a true talent to be the best and therefore do great business. When you narrow in on one thing you can be great at you will be dangerous to your competition.
