Social media has done marvelous things for many businesses, large and small.

Many of these businesses experienced an enormous growth that they have never seen before due to social media reach including Twitter.

However, many business owners still not sure how Twitter can help their marketing efforts.

This is actually not a strange question.

Considering that you only can type 140 characters in Twitter, what can you really expect to gain from this?

If you only see Twitter as a communication platform where you can chat with your friends and share your selfies, then yes I can see the point being lost.

Let’s change your perspective, and take a look at Twitter as a marketing and client relationship tool.

When you use Twitter to engage with your audience, you will quickly see the potential of this social media platform.

Expand your audience

Twitter provides a platform for you to build an audience by sharing value and reaching those that prefer to keep up with news with quick headlines that are organized to their viewing preferences.

Sharing your content through this channel you gain exposure to relevant followers who like to keep up on relevant industry events and trends.

Also, opening up this communication channel between you and these followers, who could be potential customers, could help you build a quality marketing tool.

Build relationships

In social media, you have to give a little to get a little, so it’s not designed to be a one-way communication channel, that’s why it’s called “social”.

This allows you to build relationships with your followers. The great thing about Twitter is you can make this relationship personal with real time chats, and that’s always good for business because it encourages loyalty.

Get new content ideas

You can always find fresh ideas for content with Twitter to keep your communication flowing. You can retweet and share relevant items you come across that may be of value to your audience.

Social proof

This is a great way for you to gain acknowledgment.

When you share valuable content, others will like and retweet it.

This will give you more exposure and allow you to see what you audience is interested in.

On this note. you can quickly do split testing on titles, content ideas, images… to see what is the most relevant to your audience.

These tips should help you get understand a bit more on how you can use Twitter for business.  I leave you with some additional tip for you to have even more success:

  1. Get a personalized twitter background created and bring your brand online with you
  2. Tweet of value. Do not send the same tweet and link 30 times a day in a row.
  3. Share valuable information with your tweets. Found a great deal or know of a great conference that coming up?
  4. Create tweets that are no longer than 120-130 characters. This leaves room for others to retweet or add a comment.
  5. “Social Media” is social. Interact, share others tweets and posts, share about you but be careful not to self promote only.
